When it comes to filing up on gas, Americans love the pumps located at their local supermarkets and convenience stores. People spend more time at the gas pumps, going into convenience stores, and purchasing food items, beverages, and consumer-packaged goods. In America, one of the most prominent convenience store chains to get gas is 7 Eleven.

With the skyrocketing price of gas, is it still a good idea to get your gas from 7 Eleven stores?

For today’s post, we will take a quick dive into 7 Eleven gas prices. How much does it cost nowadays? Which locations offer the best 7 Eleven gas prices? What are the ways to save at a 7 Eleven pump? We’ll answer those questions and more.

Who Can Get Gas From 7 Eleven?

Unlike several wholesale chains like Costco and Sam’s Club, everyone is welcome to fill up their gas at any of 7 Eleven’s 9,400+ locations in the U.S. However, it’s worth noting that U.S. states and territories don’t have 7 Eleven branches, including:

  • Arkansas

How Much Does 7 Eleven Gas Cost?

UPDATE (7/29/2023): As per AAA, fuel prices have been increasing over the past few weeks and have reached the national average of $$3.746 per gallon after months of fluctuation.

When it comes to actual gas prices, 7 Eleven seems to be more in line with traditional gas stations, with some locations that can boast the lowest prices. Having said that, 7 Eleven gas prices can vary from one location to the next.

Once again, we’re pulling up our favorite gas pricing tool, GasBuddy.com, and looking at several 7 Eleven locations and how their gas prices compare with the competition.

In Houston, TX, 7 Eleven has a per gallon price of $3.89, and it’s one of the more expensive options for drivers. The convenience store chain’s price is comparable to major gas distributors like Chevron, Shell, and Exxon. When looking at the top ten lowest gas prices in Houston, 7 Eleven is nowhere to be found – especially when the cheapest gas ranges from $3.39 to $3.69.

The situation is a bit different in Orlando, FL, where 7 Eleven locations actually offer competitive gas prices. One location in Orlando has a per-gallon price of $3.99, and according to GasBuddy, it’s the lowest price in the city. Chevron follows it at $3.99 per gallon, and Sam’s Club and Costco with per-gallon pricing of $4.09.

In Los Angeles, California, where you can expect gas prices to be higher than the national average, 7 Eleven is also fairly competitive. Barely squeaking into the top ten lowest prices in LA, a 7 Eleven location has a per-gallon price of $5.29. Meanwhile, the lowest prices in the city come from Chevron and Costco at $5.09 per gallon.

Is 7 Eleven Gas Good Quality?

One of the most common questions about 7 Eleven gas or gas quality in general is, “is it Top Tier gas?” The quick answer is NO. When it comes to gas quality, some brands are better than others. Most notably, the brands with the TOP Tier license were demonstrably better in having cleaner engine parts.

Top Tier gasoline was developed in 2004 with the goal of developing new minimum standards for detergent additives to minimize carbon buildup and deposits. To keep it simple, when a licensed retailer sells Top Tier Gas, all octane grades from regular to premium gasoline must adhere to the standards set by Top Tier. Thus, consumers don’t have to get higher grade fuel to have the cleansing benefits of Top Tier gas.

Unfortunately, 7 Eleven gas is not licensed by Top Tier, but that doesn’t imply it’s not good quality at all. Often, convenience store chains such as Circle K and 7 Eleven partners with oil/gas companies and have co-branded locations. In 7 Eleven’s case, one of its largest suppliers in North America is the Conoco gas company.

According to the promotional materials by Conoco, the quality of its gasoline products is higher than Top Tier. The company claims that its gas “has 3 times more detergent additive than the minimum required by the EPA and 30% more than the TOP TIER.”

Therefore, one may conclude that the gas sold in 7 Eleven stations may be better in quality compared to Top Tier gas. However, it’s worth mentioning that not all 7 Eleven locations carry Conoco gas.

How to Save on 7 Eleven Gas Prices with Fuel Program

How do I save when pumping fuel through 7 Eleven? To enjoy rewards by shopping from any 7 Eleven locations, you must join the 7REWARDS loyalty program by simply downloading the app. The 7Rewards program allows you to earn points on every dollar you spend on exclusive deals. These points are redeemable for quick discounts or more offers/savings.

For fuel savings, 7 Eleven offers a reasonably generous discount of 11 cents per gallon. However, it’s also quite limited since you can only access the 11-cents discount for your first seven (7) fill-ups or within 90 days after signup. Also, the deal is only limited to 20 gallons per transaction.

After your first seven visits, the discount shrinks to just 3 cents per gallon. Now, if you’re a regular 7 Eleven customer, this is a relatively solid deal, and you don’t even need to collect points just to access the discount.

However, for everyone else, only the first seven visits might be worth your time with its generous 11-cents off per gallon.

The neat thing about pumping gas at any 7 Eleven location is its contactless payment option. Using the 7 Eleven smartphone app, you can pay for your gas and avail of the discounts available for your account. Simply tap “Fuel Now” in the app, select the pump number, and pre-set the fuel amount. After that, tap your preferred payment method, wait for a few seconds, and pump your gas like you would in any gas station.

Quick Tips on How to Save at the Pump

As gas prices soar, it’s up to the customers to help themselves save at the pump. Here are some ways that can help:

  • Find the lowest prices: Always plan so you can figure out the stations that offer the best prices. Use gas price tracking apps like GasBuddy to find the best gas stations you can drive along the way.
  • Plan your trips: Your quick trips to the grocery stores to grab milk aren’t doing you any favors. Cut back on your trips by keeping a list of the essential items you need from the store. The fewer trips, the better your gas savings.
  • Use cruise control: While it’s not the most engaging way to drive, using cruise control can improve your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Use this feature, especially if you’re frequently driving the interstate.
  • Join a gas rewards program: If you fill up your gas at a particular gas station, consider joining the rewards program and take advantage of gas discounts. These programs are generally 100% free to join.

What’s Going on With the Price of Gas? [UPDATE 7/29/23]

Motorists will be feeling the pain at the pump again as gas prices continue to climb over the past few weeks. As of this update, the price of fuel on a national scale is $3.746, according to AAA – which is an eighth-month high. USA Today attributes the rise in fuel to increasing oil prices and the ongoing summer heat wave, which has affected the operation of refineries.

The extreme heat prevents refineries from running at full capacity, leading to a decrease in gasoline production, contributing to the rise in gas prices. In addition, oil prices, which significantly influence gas prices, have risen by $10 per barrel in July. Factors such as production cuts from OPEC and its allies, sanctions on Iran, Venezuela, and Russia, and increased exports are affecting supply and boosting prices.

Experts say short-term gas prices could hinge on refinery activities and potential Gulf hurricanes. If these concerns are resolved, gas prices could drop significantly.
