Ford Mach-E Interior Layout & Tech: What To Know
Ford loyalists became divided when the automaker launched an all-new electric vehicle (EV) with a Mustang name and nothing to do with the world’s favorite sports car. Yet, the Mustang Mach-E crossover has held its own in an increasingly competitive EV marketplace and has become embraced by doubters. We’re taking a detailed look at the Ford Mach-E interior to help EV shoppers better understand what this unconventional Mustang offers on the inside for drivers and passengers.
Trim Overview
Before diving into the Ford Mach-E interior, let’s review the trims available for the 2023 model year and each version’s basic range and mechanical specifications.

Cabin Fundamentals
The Ford Mach-E interior reflects a standard five-seat, two-row crossover configuration; there’s room for two up front and three in the second row. The rear seat has a 60⁄40-split folding setup allowing for greater cargo storage accessed through the rear hatch.
Mach-E seats are only upholstered with ActiveX, Ford’s name for a premium leatherette material; leather is not available on any version. Going back to Henry Ford’s oft-quoted phrase, you can have any interior color you want as long as it’s black; the Mach-E Select, California Route 1, and GT trims only come with a Black Onyx ActiveX-trimmed cabin (the GT’s seats are upgraded with suede-like inserts and metallic-colored piping).
However, there are two exceptions. The Mach-E Premium interior has perforated ActiveX in either Black Onyx or Light Space Gray, while the GT Performance Edition gets upgraded sport seats with perforated ActiveX in gray.

Interior Equipment
Starting with the base Select trim, Ford equips the Mustang Mach-E with dual-zone automatic climate control, a push-button start, an eight-way power driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a vinyl-wrapped steering wheel as standard.
Here are the major features that separate the other trims, equipment-wise.
California Route 1: This mid-tier Mach-E also gets a panoramic fixed-glass roof, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a driver’s memory system.
Premium & GT: The Mach-E Premium goes further upscale with more features (in addition to the above California Route 1 equipment), including an eight-way power front passenger seat, a hands-free power liftgate, and ambient cabin lighting. The GT is equipped similarly to the Premium.

Technology and Infotainment
21st-century automobiles are laden with complex electronics, and the Mustang Mach-E is no exception. Inside this EV are multiple systems to maximize comfort, convenience, and safety. Here’s a breakdown.
Instrumentation
A 10.2-inch digital instrument panel is the hub for driver information. In addition to standard information displays (speed, gear position, odometer, headlights, and outside temperature), the screen highlights vehicle range, battery status, safety alerts, and other key notifications.
Unlike traditional gauge clusters, which are embedded inside a recessed dashboard, the Mach-E’s horizontally-oriented instrument panel rests atop the dashboard behind the steering wheel. The information presented on the Mach-E driver display can be managed through the infotainment touchscreen (see below) and steering-wheel-mounted controls.
Infotainment Display
It’s hard to miss the Mach-E’s 15.5-inch touchscreen that dominates the dashboard. This portrait-style display is undoubtedly inspired by Tesla’s innovation but takes a Ford-flavored approach. The touchscreen serves three main functions:
- Entertainment and Connectivity Management: Ford’s SYNC 4A infotainment system is routed through the infotainment display and includes connected navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Ford-connected services (like emergency support and remote vehicle monitoring). A six-speaker sound system is standard with the Select and California Route 1, while the upper trims get a ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen setup (optional on the California Route 1). A volume control button and an on/off switch are at the bottom of the infotainment screen.
- System Controls: Owners also use the display to create personalized driver profiles, adjust settings (such as for the advanced driver aids described below), adjust the climate, and turn on/off the heated seats and heated steering wheel. A recent software upgrade enables users to use the volume control knob to manage the cabin temperature, fan speed, and seat heat intensity.
- Charging Management: The center screen monitors charging status, enables charging scheduling, and stores charge station locations.
Advanced Driver Aids
Much of the Mach-E’s advanced safety systems can be monitored and managed through either the center touchscreen or the driver display. Ford CoPilot 360 2.0, standard on all Mach-E versions, comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, lane-keeping alert, rear parking sensors, reverse brake assist, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control is another standard feature. BlueCruise, Ford’s semi-autonomous driving system, and a surround-view monitor are standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and GT and optional on the Select.
