Sadly, with Ford transitioning over to a more SUV and truck-based brand, the Focus has fallen out of the lineup in America since the 2018 model year. But the bright side to that is that you should still be able to easily find pre-owned Focuses at great prices nowadays.

If your Ford Focus has a classic key ignition, turn it to the first position to turn on the electronics without starting the engine. If you have a push to start system, press the button without applying the brakes to achieve the same result.

With the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, navigate left to reach the menu on the center display in the instrument cluster. From there, scroll down to settings and hit enter. From there, go to “Vehicle” and choose “Oil Life Reset.” From there, hold down the “OK” button until the system prompts you to decide what percentage you want to be notified at next time. And with that, your oil life will be reset.

The first and second generations of Ford Focus had a very strange but straightforward way of resetting an oil maintenance warning. To start off, turn the ignition on, but do not start the engine. It is very important that the engine stays off for this maneuver.

With the ignition on, put your left foot on the brake and your right foot on the accelerator, and hold them both down for 20 seconds. The screen should display a message that the oil reset is in progress. Keep holding the two pedals down until the display says that the oil reset is complete.
