Iridescent Cars: Which Vehicles Are Your Best Options?
Photo by Samuele Errico Piccarini on Unsplash
Most people perceive cars based on their car colors. Therefore, the vehicle’s type of paint dictates its styling and character. However, many car color options are simply out there and have to be seen to be believed. While some paint color options are exclusive or available at a higher price, some can only be achieved through special technology, treatments, or custom wrapping.
That’s pretty much true for an iridescent car. Some of you have probably seen a vehicle with a paint job that changes color (most likely from a car show), depending on the viewing angle. These are called iridescent paint colors, but they also go by names like pearlescent, chameleon, or Chromaflair.
Today, we have a fun post for you as we list some of the best iridescent cars the web has to offer. If you’re looking to buy an iridescent vehicle, you’ll probably have more luck buying a pre-owned one or spending cash on a special car wrap. Let’s take a look.
Best Cars With Iridescent Paint
Just a quick disclaimer: many of these cars with awesome iridescent paint jobs are not commercially available, or you have to pay a great deal of money to get these results
Ford GT
A few vehicles inspire awe better than Ford’s exclusive hypercar, the Ford GT. From the otherworldly performance to the drool-worthy exterior styling, the GT’s mere existence should excite just about any enthusiast. It has a twin-turbo V-6 that produces 660 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Ford GT certainly moves and drives how it looks.
If you have half a million lying around, you can get a Ford GT hypercar and have the paint job customized with iridescent paint – straight from the manufacturer itself. At least that’s what a successful California tech entrepreneur, Justin Choi did when he bought his Ford GT. Choi paid a $100,000 premium to compel Ford to paint his GT with the exclusive color-shifting Mystichrome paint.
This makes Choi’s 2020 Ford GT the Ultimate 1-of-1 in the automotive world. Actually, you can opt for the Mystichrome paint color for any Ford vehicle, but it will cost you a whopping $3,335 per 16 ounces of paint.

TVR Tuscan
Many of you haven’t probably heard of the TVR car manufacturer based in the UK. At one point, TVR was the world’s third largest manufacturer of specialized sports cars. The British automotive market has birthed some of the top names, including Bentley, Aston Martin, and Rolls-Royce. However, the enigmatic TVR is undoubtedly one of the most curious brands out of Britain.
With that said, the TVR Tuscan is a sports car that you can’t have on American soil. The TVR Tuscan is equipped with an inline-6 that pumps out 370 horsepower. Plus, the Tuscan’s styling is also relatively curious, with oddly placed tail lights and turn signals that were tacked on above the headrests.
The only way you can get a TVR Tuscan with iridescent or pearlescent paint is through custom paint companies.
Land Rover Range Rover
When it comes to luxury SUVs, the Land Rover Range Rover is a certified fan favorite. Global elites gravitate towards the Range Rover not because of its excellent off-road performance but for its elegant exterior styling, effortlessly luxurious cabins, and posh in-car entertainment features. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the Range Rover comes in several solid powertrain options. Indeed, it’s the original luxury barge.
If you’re looking for an iridescent car, one of your best and perhaps most accessible option is to get the Range Rover. This is because Land Rover has long announced that it offers color-changing paint jobs for its vehicles, including the Range Rover. The paint treatment is referred to as “ChromaFlair” and has been available for several years.
Nowadays, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a Range Rover with ChromaFlair paint. Your best bet is to browse the used car market.
THE BEST SEDANS WITH HIGH GROUND CLEARANCE
There are plenty of vehicles on the market that let you tower over obstacles without losing the convenience of a compact car. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of our favorite new sedans with high ground clearance.
Porsche 911 GT2
The Porsche 911 GT2 is one of the top models in the performance hierarchy, and it’s easy to see why. This lightweight sports car boasts a 3.8-liter flat-six that delivers 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. That beastly power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With a 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.6 seconds, it might as well be a teleporting machine or a laser-guided missile, for that matter.
Outside of its jaw-dropping performance, the Porsche 911 GT2 is also available in several ChromaFlair flavors, including Magic Magenta, Urban Bamboo, Shifting Carbon, Python Green, and Explosive Gold. However, the special iridescent paint doesn’t come at a low price. Serious buyers must pay close to $100k for a ChromaFlair 911 GT2. With an MSRP of $293,200, you better be loaded if you want a Porsche 911 GT2 in this fantastic color scheme.
WHAT TO DO IF A DEALER REFUSES TO CANCEL EXTENDED WARRANTY
Car buying can occasionally be frustrating, especially if you’re purchasing your vehicle through a dealership. We’re here to tell you how to navigate a situation in which a dealer refuses to cancel your extended warranty.
Audi R8
Lastly, we have another formidable sports car, the Audi R8. As Audi’s top sports car, the R8 offers an exhilarating ride that comes in one luxurious package. First, the R8’s styling is one of the best in the segment, especially if you go for the Spyder variant. Inside, you’re greeted with a minimalist cabin that still feels appropriately luxurious.
The obvious highlight of the R8 is the screaming 8,700 rpm V10 engine, capable of 602 horses. Plus, the main appeal of the R8 is that it’s an everyday supercar. It has an ergonomic sound and reliable build quality, among many reasons. The R8 manages to separate itself from competing supercars with predictable twin-turbo V8s.
Furthermore, the Audi R8 looks great as an iridescent car. However, unlike some of the models featured above, you’ll have to work with a specialty paint shop to achieve the iridescent look.
That wraps up our list of the best iridescent cars you may or may not acquire. Technically, you can get iridescent paint for any vehicle you like; you just need a reputable specialty paint shop to get it done. However, be prepared for the high price tag.
