The Rivian R1T, which has highway-focused Pirelli Scorpion Zero all-season tires, demonstrated the best braking performance with its short pedal stroke, firm feel, and minimal body dive. The Cybertruck, on the other hand, had a softer pedal and longer travel but still managed to maintain excellent body control and consistent stops, even though it required a slightly longer distance of 126 feet compared to the Rivian’s 123 feet.

The Cybertruck and Rivian R1T offer impressive range capabilities, though the Cybertruck’s claims have yet to be EPA-certified. Tesla estimates the Cybertruck’s range to fall between 250 and 470 miles, with the upper limit achievable through an optional range extender that occupies cargo bed space. In contrast, the Rivian R1T boasts a peak EPA-estimated range of 410 miles without compromising bed capacity, with its lowest rating standing at 270 miles and the Performance model ranging from 352 to 328 miles, depending on the motor configuration.
When it comes to charging, the Cybertruck has an advantage over the Rivian R1T due to its access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. The Cybertruck has a peak charging rate of 250 kW, which allows it to add up to 136 miles of range in just 15 minutes. The Rivian R1T, on the other hand, claims to be able to charge at rates exceeding 200 kW, with an upcoming update promising even faster speeds of up to 300 kW. Currently, the R1T can add up to 140 miles of range in 20 minutes.
Overall, the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T are closely matched for driving range and charging, with the Cybertruck potentially offering slightly higher maximum range estimates. However, the Rivian R1T provides competitive range figures without sacrificing cargo space and is expected to deliver faster charging speeds soon, thanks to an upcoming update.

Rivian vs. Cybertruck: Payload and Towing
The Cybertruck and Rivian R1T offer remarkable towing capabilities, both boasting a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. However, the upcoming rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck variant will have a reduced towing capacity of 7,500 pounds.
When it comes to payload capacity, the Cybertruck beats the Rivian R1T. The Cybertruck can haul an incredible 2,500 pounds, while the R1T’s maximum payload capacity is 1,764 pounds. However, the exact figures may vary depending on the specific configuration of the vehicle.
The Cybertruck’s cargo bed measures 6 feet long and 4 feet wide, but the buttresses extending down the sides may limit access from certain angles. On the other hand, the Rivian R1T features a smaller bed measuring 4.5 feet long and 4.3 feet wide. Both trucks offer useful tonneau covers to protect cargo. Still, the Rivian has a slight edge with its innovative gear tunnel between the rear doors and the truck bed, providing additional storage space.

Rivian vs. Cybertruck: Price
The 2024 Rivian R1T starts at $71,700 for the AWD Adventure trim with dual motors and the standard battery. Upgrading to larger battery packs can add between $6,000 and $16,000 to the base price.
On the other hand, the 2024 Cybertruck starts at $79,990 for the AWD model and $99,990 for the Cyberbeast, not including the $1,390 destination fee. The range-extender battery will further increase the prices, but Tesla has not yet released specific pricing for this option.
