Underpowered Entry Engine

Another issue with the Subaru Legacy is the seriously underpowered nature of the entry engine in the lineup. The base models come with a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, which is much less powerful than the option you get with the Sport and Touring XT trims - a 260-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter engine.

In the base engine, you get 0-60 mph in a slow 8 seconds, compared to 6.1 seconds offered by the upgraded engine system. The standard engine is much slower than what you’ll get if you pay a little more - so it makes more sense with the Legacy to upgrade than to stick with the lowest trim.

Troublesome Driving Attitude

Finally, we dislike the troublesome driving attitude that comes with the Subaru Legacy. It’s a comfortable car and it offers average styling. However, if you want anything more than that, you’re not going to find it in the Subaru Legacy. It is what it is and nothing more, which is a benefit and a disadvantage for the car.

Unfortunately, there just isn’t anything wildly memorable about the performance, interior, or exterior of the Subaru Legacy. If you’re looking for something incredible to boost your driving experience, you’ll either need to upgrade your Legacy or find a different vehicle to suit your needs.
