Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that gas prices are painfully high right now. As of this posting, the national average gas price per gallon is $4.12. While that’s lower than the record numbers back in March, it’s still a far cry from reaching acceptable levels, especially compared to last year’s gas price.

Now, more than ever, it’s essential to keep track of gas prices in your local area. For today’s gas price highlight, we’re taking a good look at Thorntons gas prices.

How are Thorntons gas prices these days? Is Thorntons gas good quality? What are the ways to save whenever you pump gas at a Thorntons? If you’re a regular Thorntons customer, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll answer these questions and more.

How Much Does Thorntons Gas Cost?

Thorntons is a convenience store and gasoline chain based in Louisville, KY. Thorntons has 191 locations in six states, including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee.

One interesting fact is that BP acquired Thorntons back in August 2021. However, BP stated that they would retain the Thorntons and become a sister chain to another BP-owned convenience store, ampm.

Thorntons is quite popular with customers because they like the food offerings and the competitive gas prices. True enough, Thorntons does offer reasonable fuel prices for many of its locations.

Is Thorntons Gas Good Quality?

Thorntons is not a Top Tier gas brand. Top Tier uses higher amounts of additives and detergents that surpass the government’s minimum standards, resulting in a cleaner and more efficient engine.

Although they’re not Top Tier, Thorntons pride itself on its fuel quality. Thorntons regular gas meets the government’s stringent guidelines in fuel additives and detergents. Otherwise, Thorntons won’t be able to open its doors to customers.

In addition, Thorntons also offers unique blends such as the Unleaded 15 and E85.

  • The E85 gasoline is recommended for Flex Fuel Vehicles manufactured after 2008 and 2006 for GM vehicles. It’s a gasoline-ethanol blend that contains up to 85% ethanol. Thorntons claims that E85 has fewer contaminants than traditional unleaded because ethanol is biodegradable and non-toxic.
  • At select Thorntons locations, customers can fill up on Unleaded 88, also known as Unleaded 15, which has a 88 octane rating. Recommended by the EPA for the model year 2001 or newer cars, trucks, and SUVs, Unleaded 88 contains 15% and is deemed the most tested fuel in the market.

While not being a Top Tier can be a deal-breaker for some people, Thorntons has high-quality fuel products well-received by consumers.

How to Save on Thorntons Gas Prices with Fuel Rewards Program

Thorntons has a rewards program called Refreshing Rewards. You may register online or download the Refreshing Rewards app to join the free program. As a member, you’ll have access to exclusive deals, offers, sweepstakes, store discounts, and fuel savings.

What’s unique about the Thorntons fuel savings program is that discounts are sent out randomly to members, with a random amount of discounts. When you first register with Refreshing Rewards, you’ll have a 15-cent off for your first fill-up. It’s not much, but most people will take what they can get. Therefore, it’s best to be always on your feet and always check the app for flash discounts that you can take advantage of.

Thorntons is a great and affordable place to get your gas if you can get flash fuel discounts from the app. Moreover, Thorntons gas prices are already competitive on their own, so that’s also a definite plus for customers.

When are Gas Prices Coming Down?

Although gas prices continue to go down as of this writing, it’s likely not low enough for most consumers – especially after dealing with record-high numbers in March. Many Americans ask: when are gas prices coming down, and how much?

According to industry experts, the drop in fuel prices was due to declining demand. The slight decrease in demand is likely due to the higher prices. However, with the coming warmer months and longer days, the demand will likely skyrocket as more people hit the roads and longer.

But there’s some good news because crude oil prices continue to drop to below $100. If the crude oil price continues to decrease, there’s a good chance fuel prices will fall. On the bright side of things, we have probably seen the worst of it.
