Optional Heated Seats with These Trim Levels

When you purchase a Toyota RAV4, the only trim level that you are unable to option heated seats for is the base LE trim. The XLE, XLE Premium, the Adventure, and the TDR Off-Road all come with available front heated seats as part of an option All-Weather package. Toyota RAV4 Standard Heated Seats

If you are going to choose to go with the base LE Toyota RAV4 then, you will be stuck with no options for heated seats. If you decide to go with the highest trim level, the Toyota RAV4 Limited, you get standard heated seats for the driver side and front passenger seats.

Cooler and Ventilated Seats

Cooled and ventilated seats can also be optioned up for the driver side and passenger side seats in the RAV4 Aventure, Limited, and TDR Off-Road. They are not available on the LE, XLE, and XLE Limited.

RAV4 Heated Seats in the Second Row

The Limited trim level Toyota RAV4 is the only RAV4 that you can get a package that includes heated rear seats. So if the comfort of your rear passengers is that important to you, there is that option. But that is as far as it goes, you won’t be able to order cooled or ventilated seats for the rear on any other trim level.

Possible Heated Seat Dangers

Although rare, there are some potential dangers users should be aware of. Heated seats are a luxury, but like with anything, too much of a good thing can sometimes be a bad thing.

Toasted Skin Syndrome is a real condition that you might start to see signs of if you use your heated seats too much, especially if you use them on high and don’t wear thicker clothing on leather heater seats. You might start to notice your skin turning a little brownish, reddish, or discolored from the constant use of heated seats. And on top of that, there have been many reports of people suffering 3rd-degree burns from seats that heat up too fast and too much.

It is always a good idea to warm up your seats on high then click to the lower setting to make sure you don’t accidentally get burned. You may think that sounds ridiculous because you would feel yourself getting burned, but you’d be surprised. Think about how many times you have been sunburned and not noticed it until later that day or the next?

People with underline medical problems like paralysis or neuropathy should take extra caution when using heated seats - these types of accidents could creep up on you even faster. It is said that a faulty heated seat can reach up to 120-degrees Fahrenheit in ten minutes and a maximum of 150+ degrees over time, plenty of time to give you some uncomfortable burns. Proper running heated seats shouldn’t reach over 95-degrees, which is still plenty enough to burn you depending on the way your skin reacts to heat.

Buying and Installing Aftermarket Toyota RAV4 Heated Seats: What to Know

If this is a route you’re willing to go, we recommend you don’t take shortcuts. Improperly installed heated seats can cause fires, and the heated seat itself could burn you or someone else in the vehicle.

There are outboard heated seat options that are much easier to install as a novice. But if you want to go with the heated seat option that goes under the seat’s material like it were stock from the factory, you really should seek out a professional, unless you’re sure you know what you’re doing.

A professional will not only be able to make sure that your heated seats get installed properly and safely, but they will also know what company is the best to go through for quality and pricing.

I would expect to pay somewhere around $400-$500 per seat to have a stock appearing heated seat kit installed correctly. Price will vary, and seats with more options like lumbar support and 8-way adjustments with memory will probably affect the install price as well.

Toyota RAV4 Heated Seat Problems

Connections: If your heated seats start to have problems like they don’t heat up at all, there could be a few easy things you might be able to do to fix them without taking your vehicle into the dealership. You can start by looking under the seats where the connection is. There will be a set of wires running into a clip that should be connected to another clip that will run into the seat.

If this connection is loose or discounted, or in any way damaged, this could be your problem. If it’s damaged, you might want to have a professional take a look at it. If it’s not, take the two connected ends, try to clean them up as much as possible, then reconnect properly. This isn’t that common, but you’d be surprised how many people use under their seats as a storage compartment or a garbage can. Shoving stuff under your seats when there are connections under there can jar the connection loss.

Fuse: If you have a blown fuse, this can be a very easy and inexpensive fix that you don’t have to go to the dealership for. Most fuse boxes are in easy reach - under the dashboard or in the glove department.

To find which fuse the heated seat runs through, use your owner’s manual. When you have located the fuse by using the owner’s manual, pull it out and check and see if it’s blown. You’ll be able to tell because most all fuses (this one included) have a see-through section where one side of the fuse will be connected to the other side. If the connection is broken up, you have a bad fuse.

Other issues might start to get a little complicated, and we don’t recommend taking on those problems on your own. If you don’t think you need the heated seats, they’re not a necessity, so if you want to just wait until the next time you have your vehicle serviced to get them fixed, no harm, no foul.
