In the never-ending quest for speed, manufacturers continue to create powerful vehicles and keep raising the bar. With modern supercars (and even some production models), manufacturers have been pushing the limits on how fast cars can go. And why not? Who doesn’t like the exhilaration of burying your foot on the gas all the way down to the carpet in a high-powered machine?
When it comes to fast cars, you’ll look at their horsepower to determine how fast they can go. Of course, the higher the horsepower, the more you’ll have to pay to harness such vehicular power. This is why the cars that have the most horsepower are luxury sports cars and hypercars. However, many electric and hybrid supercars are joining in on the horsepower rankings.
So what car has the most horsepower?
To quickly answer this question, the Devel Sixteen can confidently claim the title of the fastest car in the world. However, although the Devel Sixteen is pretty much untouchable in terms of horsepower, there are other high-powered supercars you should know.
6 Cars With the Highest Horsepower
What car has the most horsepower? Below are some of the best vehicles with the highest claimed horsepower. Many of these cars are out of reach for the general public, but we can all dream, can’t we?
Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut (1,600 HP)
Swedish auto manufacturer Koenigsegg is no rookie when it comes to making some of the fastest land vehicles on the planet. The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is a crowning glory for the Swedes. While the “standard” Jesko is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 that delivers a staggering 1,280 hp and 1,106 lb-ft of torque, the Absolut version takes it up a notch, several even.
With E85, the Jesko Absolut roars with 1,600 hp and can reach a top speed of 330 mph (or 531 kph). Furthermore, the engine comes with the world’s lightest V-8 crankshaft, made from a single, solid-steel billet and boasting a flat-plane design. The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut costs $3.4 million.

SSC Tuatara (1,750 HP)

Designed, developed, and manufactured by SSC North America (formerly Shelby SuperCars Inc.), the Tuatara is the successor to the SSC Ultimate Aero, which used to hold the title of the world’s fastest car in 2007. There was a brief time in history when the Tuatara supposedly hit 331 mph, but that claim was later proven false.
With that said, you can’t fault SSC for the lack of trying, but we have to say they’re getting there. The most recent benchmark confirmed that the SSC Tuatara managed to hit 295 mph (474.8 kph) in 2022. Regardless, the SSC Tuatara offers a staggering 1,750 horsepower, powered by a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine.
